Converse Premium Labs is an AKC recognized Bred with H.E.A.R.T. Breeder!
Converse Premium Labs believes and supports the historical & traditional standard that Labrador Retrievers are Black, Chocolate & Yellow (Red Fox is a variation of Yellow).
Is a "Silver Lab" recognized by the American Kennel Club? No! The American Kennel Club (AKC) does not recognize "silver labs" as a distinct color or a purebred Labrador Retriever, as the breed standard only acknowledges black, yellow, and chocolate colors. Here's a more detailed explanation:
-
AKC Breed Standard:The AKC's Labrador Retriever breed standard specifies that the only acceptable coat colors are black, yellow (ranging from fox-red to light cream), and chocolate (ranging from light to dark chocolate).
-
Breed Club Position:The Labrador Retriever Club, Inc., the AKC parent club for the breed, also does not consider "silver labs" to be purebred Labrador Retrievers.
-
Potential Weimaraner Influence:Some breeders of "silver labs" were also involved in the Weimaraner breed, and the "silver" color is believed by some to be a result of a dilute gene (dd) that is common in Weimaraners. However, there is no conclusive evidence to support this claim.
-
Registration:While the AKC does not recognize "silver" as a color, they will register a dog as a Labrador Retriever if it meets the breed standard for the other characteristics, even if it has a silver coat. In such cases, they will be registered under "chocolate" rather than "silver".
-
Disqualification:Any other color or combination of colors is a disqualification in the show ring
-
"Silver" as a Diluted Color:The term "silver lab" refers to dogs with a dilute or gray coat color, which is not considered a standard color for the breed.
